1949 Fiat Topolino

500cc Model C (Little Mouse)

                                       Back

Perhaps one of the most famous vehicles ever made in Italy. When first Model A was released in 1936 it was an overnight success. Here was a new concept in a cars including 12 volt electricals, hydraulic brakes and could safely transport two adults and two children (there is only a squab seat in the back) and was in a price range affordable for the period. Our vehicle is a convertible which has been restored to original condition including the two tone paint and the semaphore turning signals attached to the windscreen frame. Most of today’s and even yesterday’s generation would not recognise or know what semaphore turning indicators look like or know what they are used for.

Not much is known of its earlier history except it was originally imported through the Melbourne Distributor.

The whole car screams “Italian” and although recognised in Australia is a most sought after and desirable car in Europe. Unfortunately not many survive in Australia, during the 50s and 60s many were destroyed as the bodies were keenly sought after to make Hot Rods and Dragsters.

We are very fortunate that we also have a 1938 Model A and a 1948 Model B, photographs of these are on the last page of photographs with the Sachs Moped. Both are awaiting restoration but could be used as props and at this time could be painted to suit a particular situation.

Photographs are located Under Vehicles under restoration page.
