1929 Chevrolet Capitol Tourer

                                     Back

We have owned this car for 36 years, it was found in a Sydney garage in 1967 still with a 1946 registration sticker on the windscreen. Fortunately it was in very good condition without rust having been garaged all its life. It was given a coat of paint and superficial restoration, even the original hood was kept. It then went into storage for 21 years due to  marriage and children coming along. In 1995 a complete and full restoration was commenced which took eighteen months. No expense was spared and today it is absolutely faultless and better than the day it left the South Australian factory of Holden Bodies seventy six years ago.

It has a three speed crash gear box plus reverse, top speed of about 80 to 90 kilometres per hour but as we have never driven it flat out, we cannot verify this. It can be started by a hand crank at the front of the engine or an electric starter. The engine is 4 cylinder 2 litre and by comparison with today’s vehicles is of exceptionally simple design and construction but much more difficult to drive.
