Yes, it really is a BMW.
Originally of Italian design, BMW obtained a licence to manufacture and
changed different aspects of the car, the main one being the engine. The
250cc R27 single cylinder motorcycle engine was bored out to 300 cc and
the bottom end changed to suit the different type of vehicle. Access
into the vehicle was through the front opening door, the steering wheel
was mounted to this so when the door was opened the steering column and
simple instrument panel swung out too, allowing easier access to the
vehicle. Like the Heinkel, this was also fitted with a sunroof. Although
not mentioned in advertising literature it was another way out of the
vehicle in case of accident should the front opening door should be
disabled or jammed close. Almost
two hundred thousand of these vehicles were manufactured under the BMW
name in As
far as can be ascertained there are on approximately twelve of these
vehicles in Top
speed is 90 t0 95 kms per hour and it holds two people. |
